Not Enough Hours

Yesterday I was in a bad mood. In my disgruntlement, I decided to do some simple math on the number of hours in a day.

My average weekday is comprised of these activities:

  • Sleeping ~ 8hrs
  • Working ~ 10hrs
  • Miscellaneous – 3hrs (Driving, Showering, Checking Twitter)

That math only leaves a remainder of 3 hours a day. (24 – 8 – 10 – 3 = 3)

Quick Thoughts

  • That’s…depressing.
  • Less sleep could help, but probably ruin the quality of the rest of the hours.
  • I need to become more selective what takes up my free time. Do I really need to watch that new episode of NCIS?
  • I should check Twitter less

Bigger Revelation

My weekends are extremely valuable, and there’s no doubt I’ve been using them ineffectively. If I had to guess, my typical weekend boils down to watching T.V. playing mindless games, and catching up on work. Well, not anymore.

So I hope you enjoy this upcoming Memorial Day. Whether it’s to relax with the family, crack open a new book, or just have “alone time”.

I know I’m planning on making it count.

Changed My Handle

I’ve used the handle “zedder02″ for many many years and for many different applications. It has it’s own history, but I think it’s time to retire it.

So now I’m known as “zmoazeni”.

Vision Statement

For a while I’ve wrestled with the direction I want my life to take. After listening to advice of people much more seasoned than me, I decided to organize my thoughts. And that’s a very difficult and time consuming task for me.

I initially set out to write my mission statement, but after I kept writing, it really felt more of a vision statement. I’m not one to argue the semantics between the two, but calling it a “vision statement” feels more appropriate.

I’ve uploaded the latest revision of my vision statement and I’d welcome feedback either below or via email at zach -dot- moazeni -at- gmail -dot- com.

Need Code Help?

I’m really excited about the possibilities around RailBridge. As a seasoned Ruby developer I will be offering code reviews on Rails and non-Rails code alike.

Steps to ask for help are pretty easy.

  1. Create a Github Gist with the code you want to go over.
  2. Ping either RailsBridge, or ping me through Twitter with the URL to the Gist and your contact information.
  3. Let’s chat!

Universities and Colleges in the Michigan Area

If your Computer Science department wants seasoned Ruby/Rails developers to speak with your students or wants to offer RailsBridge community support to your students. Send me an email at zach -dot- moazeni -at- gmail -dot- com, I’d love to speak with you.

Comments are back

Well I finally got off my ass to port over the comments from Mephisto. Let me know if you find anything amiss.
