Zach, by the time I realized "how few hours you actually have in a day/month/year" and started hiring I was at the point of no return.

Running a business is not for everyone, but I think you would make a great boss.

Enjoy!

This is a great story to hear that a company cares that much about it's developer community.

I've been involved with several client libraries on github connecting tumblr's api service and have on several occasions emailed their support staff about issues and feature requests. Every time I get the low level response "we'll forward your response to a developer" and never hear back. Most notably I found an issue with their authenticated reads not pulling private posts correctly.

Great to know there are companies out their that value the 3rd party developers and the communities they help establish around their products. Wish the staff at tumblr would learn from Harvest.

Hi Zach,

Thanks for the kind words! We know of many happy Harvest customers who use harvested daily to run their business, so thank you for you high quality work and being part of the Harvest community.

@Captain Jack

SSL secures plain text Basic Auth pretty well. OAuth vs Basic Auth is primarily about giving the service your password and the service abusing it.

Is the issue not the giving of passwords to an app that will possibly steal it for nefarious use but the transmission of passwords in clear text over the internet when using basic auth?
I think that is a much bigger security risk!

I'm with you. The OAuth flow is just wrong for desktop apps. That PIN-handling is just a terrible idea.

@Cliff

That's a good perspective.

I still prefer "life-long". Spending that all that time on a career feels wasteful. There are many careers out there that I can get a job and punch in-and-out of. Perhaps even enjoy parts of it. Yet, for me, if I'm going to invest that amount of time into something, it better fulfill something more than a paycheck.

On the other side, I'll agree that monk-like devotion isn't healthy either. Thoughts?
